This is a camera I have owned since September 2008, and it has served me well. I have quite literally done laps of the world with this camera by my side and it is with a little sadness that I now put it up for sale.

For a brief story on my photo-gear journey from when I got my first SLR all the way to the D700, click here.

For a full list of the camera’s specifications, click here. To read a comprehensive review, click here.

All you really need to know is that it is 12 megapixels, has a full-frame sensor (if you don’t know what that means, then maybe I don’t want to sell you the camera), and can shoot up to 8fps with the optional battery pack. This is probably the best camera I’ve ever owned, and the only reason I upgraded was because I needed video functionality.

What is NOT included

Lenses. I’m not selling any lenses with this camera. Check my for sale page as I will sell lenses from time to time.

Compact flash memory cards. CF cards are the big ones. They’re robust and inexpensive. I’m not selling any.

Film. This is a digital camera. Figure it out.

What IS included

Nikon MB-D10 vertical grip, EN-EL4a battery to go in it, and charger for the EN-EL4a (this is the same battery that goes in the Nikon D3). With the addition of the vertical grip and battery pack, this camera can shoot at an astoundingly fast 8fps (without the battery pack, its maximum framerate is 5fps). This is very useful for sports like speed skating…

Also included is an extra EN-EL3 battery, which is the smaller battery that fits into the handle of the camera. When you buy a D700 you typically get one of these, but by lucky coincidence I obtained (found) another while traveling through Mongolia (you can’t make this stuff up). Obviously, the charger is also included.

If you wish, I can also throw in a camera strap. I have a number of “normal” camera straps (like the ones that come with the cameras) which are unused because I like to use my own harnesses to carry the cameras.

The Deal

I am only going to sell this as a whole package. The reasons should be obvious (like, what am I going to do with an MB-D10 battery grip which ONLY fits the Nikon D700 and D300 cameras?). I have calculated the price based on the current price on Amazon.de divided by two. This may seem high for a camera that is nearly 9 years old and has seen very heavy use, but I assure you that it is in good working order, has been well taken-care of, and has had its sensor professionally cleaned, and shutter mechanism professionally serviced by authorised Nikon service centres around the world. I take very good care of my equipment. This isn’t just a camera and some accessories, this is a complete package for taking amazing photos in any situation.

Current price of a Nikon D700 on Amazon – €999.99 (this surprised me too), Nikon MB-D10 battery grip – €297, Nikon EN-EL4a battery – €119, Nikon BL-3 battery chamber cover for EN-EL4a battery (yes, I had to buy this separately) – €39, Nikon MH-22 quick charger for EN-EL4a battery – €299. The total comes to €1753.99, so my final price is:

€875

Convert that to any currency you wish.

I live in Berlin most of the time, but I do travel a lot. Contact me about my immediate travel plans. Hopefully, through a wide network of frequently-travelling friends, I should be able to figure out a way of getting the camera to you.
